がちゃがちゃ

1 〔音〕 (a) clank; (a) clatter.

●がちゃがちゃいう音 a rattling [clattering] noise; 〔剣などの〕 a clash; a clashing sound.

●このあたりでは棚の上のびんががちゃがちゃ音を立てる程度の揺れだった. In this area the tremor was just strong enough to rattle the bottles on the shelf.

・ドアのノブをがちゃがちゃさせたが開かなかった. He rattled the doorknob but it didn't open.

・司令官は腰のサーベルをがちゃがちゃ鳴らしながら閲兵した. The commanding officer inspected the troops, his saber rattling.

・彼は箱の中からがちゃがちゃとかぎの束を取り出した. He took a bunch of keys out of the box with a jangling sound.

・びんをがちゃがちゃいわせながら牛乳配達の自転車が窓の下を通った. A milk delivery man bicycled past under the window, the bottles clinking (together).

2 〔乱雑に･うるさく〕

●あの子が化粧台の引き出しの中をがちゃがちゃにしてしまった. The child went and messed up everything in the drawer of my dressing table.

・君が横からがちゃがちゃ言うから話がまとまらなかったんだ. The reason nothing got settled was that you kept interfering [butting in (from the sidelines), wanting to say your piece].
